Autumn Vibes Collection:  Feels Like Fall

Autumn Vibes Collection -

Baby Blanket Stack

Six available styles

Earlier this year I read The Museum of Ordinary People by Mike Gayle.

A novel about everyday things, which made me think about how certain objects hold meaning and memory. How we sometimes need to hold on to a thing to keep its meaning and memory. But also, how we sometimes need to let it go.

When I crochet a blanket as a gift, it’s always my desire that it will become a family heirloom. An object, with a unique history, that people want to keep. If not that, then, an item that is so well loved and used it ends up in tatters, with only a story or maybe a picture of it to be passed down.

As I was planning to start, or rather debating about starting, my small crochet business, the theme of the book would come back to me. I wondered again, how a blanket I made by hand could shape someone’s personal tale? The first items I crocheted after that I took more time with and worried more about their quality and longevity.

I also worried about how to create items that were unique and specific to an individual’s life. Usually, I pick colors and patterns based on the gift recipient. But in starting a business with ready to ship crochet blankets, I wouldn’t know the purchaser or the person they’re shopping for or enough about either to create something specific to them. I needed a new approach to creative, thoughtful, and intentional production.

While facing down triple digit heatwaves in the height of summer, I longed for the cooler temperatures of fall. I wanted to be surrounded by the rustic colors, the familiar scents and flavors of pumpkins and apples, and the sound of fallen leaves crunching underfoot.

The longing inspired a yarn shopping expedition, in which I came across a color palette that captured the autumn vibe and sparked the flame of a new approach:  color collections. Themes that resonate with people in a way that might fit their life story.

I hope you like what I came up with …

What autumn reads would you pair with the blankets from the Autumn Vibes collection?
